NEET 2023 DIFFICULTY LEVEL: QUESTION PAPER ANALYSIS

The NTA (National Testing Agency) conducted the NEET 2023 examination on May 7th, 2023, with exam centers all across India. According to the student’s responses, the overall level of the exam has been considered moderate. Nearly 20,00,000 students attended the NEET 2023 examination yesterday. The entire duration of the examination was 3 hours and 20 minutes. Following the instructions from the admit card, the NEET 2023 examination began at 2 p.m. and ended at 5:20 p.m. yesterday.

The majority of the questions came directly from the NCERT syllabus, according to an analysis of the candidates’ responses. However, the time-consuming and difficult nature of some of the questions made it moderate. There were also simple and straightforward questions. It is clear from the question pattern from the previous years that the exam paper would include both direct and indirect questions.

Regarding the time taken to complete the exam, some students finished it within the allocated time, but there wasn’t enough time for everyone. The numerical tests were challenging and time-consuming. Some students began in biology before moving on to chemistry and physics. Another group of students began with physics before moving on to chemistry and physics. However, the majority of the time-consuming questions on the NEET 2023 exam came from the physics numerical section.

Taking each subject individually, the difficulty level of physics was moderate when compared to chemistry and biology. Biology was simple, while chemistry was difficult since this section contained tricky questions. The NTA changes the difficulty of the subjects every year. The hardest problems this year turned out to be in chemistry rather than physics.

Biology had two parts, botany and zoology with a total of 90 questions and more weightage from biomolecules, the plant kingdom, the molecular basis of inheritance, and tissues. All the questions were directly from the NCERT syllabus. More were statement-based questions and match the following question. In botany, assertion-based reason-type questions and statement-based questions were more. There were 28 questions asked from the +1 chapters of Botany and 22 questions from the +2 chapters. In Zoology, reproduction, and reproductive health had more weightage. 4 questions came from the animal kingdom and structural organization.

Physics was more time-consuming than the other two subjects because of its numerical problems, but all the questions were based on the NCERT syllabus. There were 45 questions in this section, with more weightage given to modern physics, electronics, optics, and mechanics. In the +1 chapters and +2 chapters, there were 20 and 30 difficult questions respectively. Compared to the previous years’ questions, the clarity and concept of the questions were more clear. From the chapter on current electricity, 5 questions were asked.

The chemistry section was really difficult for the candidates. Most of the questions were not easy and tricky. 23 questions were asked from the +1 chapters and 27 questions from+2 chapters. In-depth level statement questions and assertion-reason questions were asked with confusing options. From the organic and physical chemistry portion equal number of 16 questions were asked. The overall difficulty level of the chemistry questions were high according to the students.

As soon as the exam got over, we conducted a poll section to analyze the difficulty level of each subject (physics, botany, and zoology) and the overall difficulty of the exam. Through the responses, it was concluded that zoology and botany were easy, physics was moderate, and chemistry questions were the toughest.
The overall response to the difficulty level of the exam was moderate. In the initial responses of the students, it seemed that NEET 2023 was easy. But later on, based on the overall reaction, it was concluded that the exam was moderate for the majority of the candidates.
