Ever since the result was published, the NEET 2024 examination was in the focal point of discussion for it unusual result and question paper leakage. Here’s a detailed look at the events and their outcomes:

Initial Results and Controversy

Upon declaration of results on June 4th, NEET 2024 examination immediately got an attention for its unusual outcome: 61 students across India achieved a perfect score of 720/720. This result caused concerns and allegations of question paper leakage, prompting protests and demands for the re-conduction of the exam.

Supreme Court Intervention

The issue reached the Supreme Court, and the final verdict of the issue was given on June 23rd. The Court dismissed the request for a re-examination but acknowledged the seriousness of the question paper leakage allegations. According to the Court’s findings, the integrity of the examination was not affected due to the question paper leak originating from the Hazaribagh Centre in Jharkhand, as investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Impact on Question Paper Integrity

An important aspect of the controversy involved a specific physics question (the 19th question), which initially had two correct options (option 4 and 2). Following scrutiny by IIT Madras, option 4 was declared as the correct answer and option 2 as incorrect, leading to a reduction in the number of students achieving a perfect score of 720/720 from 61 to 17. Additionally, approximately 4.22 lakh students faced a deduction of four marks due to the cancellation of the second option.

Four students from Brilliant initially secured perfect score 720/720, but after the Supreme Court’s final ruling, this number is reduced to one. The revised rank list will be published soon by the NTA.
