IIT Zanzibar – The new campus of IIT Madras in Tanzania

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT –Madras) is all ready to start the new campus outside India. The IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania is welcoming students from all countries to get a quality education. In October 2023, the first academic year will begin. Dr. Preeti Aghalayam will become the director of the IIT Zanibar campus. She currently works as an Assistant professor at IIT Madras Department of Chemical Engineering.

The new campus is offering full-time courses in B.Sc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Two-Year M.Tech program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The course will provide a thorough education in data science and artificial intelligence with a focus on teaching the essential skills needed to succeed in this quickly expanding industry. Before moving on to higher-level professional courses, the program includes core courses in probability theory, linear algebra, and statistics. The course will also include practical assignments that assist the students get ready for a future with countless DS and AI possibilities.

The M.Tech course offers a challenging and thorough curriculum aimed to develop skills in DS and AI. Along with required courses like Programming, Data Structures, and Mathematical Foundations of Data Science, students can choose from a variety of supplemental electives. Students get the skills they need to excel in the labor market while also developing their research aptitude through intensive lab work and projects that are industry-driven.

In India, admission to the IIT Madras campus is based on the entrance exam. In the new campus, the selection process is through screening tests and faculty interviews. There are 50 seats for the Bachelor’s course and 20 seats for the Master’s course. The institution is aiming to provide the same benefits experienced by the students in Madras, which includes the opportunity for internships at the world’s top companies.

The new IIT campus has started inviting applications for the courses. The last date to fill out the application is August 5th.

Admission to IIT Zanzibar is not based on JEE Advanced scores. The interested candidates have to first appear for the screening test followed by the interview conducted by the IIT Faculty.

2. What is the fee structure at IIT Zanzibar?

For the B.Sc. course in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the fee is Rs. 9,84,960 per year. And for the M.Tech. course, the fee is Rs. 3,28,346 per year. The B.Sc. course has a duration of 4 years and the M.Tech. the course has a duration of 2 years.

3. How to study in IIT without JEE Advanced?

For engineering at IIT, the students have to clear the JEE Advanced exam. But the candidates can apply for an online BS Degree in Electronic Systems and Data Science and Application without taking the JEE Advanced examination.
