What is an INSPIRE scholarship?

Innovation in Science Pursuit of Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is a scholarship program implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The DST was established in 1971 and is responsible for implementing and conducting science and technology programs in India. This merit-based scholarship helps the students pursue and develop a career in science and research. Through this, students can study basic and natural science subjects.

How are eligible for the INSPIRE Scholarship?

To apply for the scholarship, the candidate must have passed class 12 and have pursued an undergraduate or postgraduate course in natural sciences. Apart from these, the candidate has to be within the age group of 17–22 years. The JEE Advanced, JEE Main and NEET toppers can also apply for the scholarship.

INSPIRE Scholarship Amount

The selected students will receive an amount of Rs. 80,000 per year. This money will be received in two parts: an annual scholarship of Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 20,000 for participating in the summer research project. All of the selected candidates must conduct summer research projects under the direction of a working researcher at a recognized study center in India. Around 10,000 students are selected every year for the scholarship.
