The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are prestigious institutions in India that are controlled and funded by the Central Government of India. These NIT institutions are known for their educational quality, excellent faculty and unparalleled infrastructure. There are 31 NIT institutions in India of which 20 are old engineering institutes and 11 are newly established. NIT Patna is the oldest of the NIT institutions, having been established in 1886.
Admission to all the NIT institutions is based on the JEE Main examination score. The candidates have to register and participate in the online allotment and admission process conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
