Clear Your Doubts – Repeat or Not? Which Course? What Next?
A few days ago, the Brilliant Study Centre reached out to students and parents across Kerala with a simple question: “What should our next video be about?” The response was massive, with hundreds of comments flooding in. Many were filled with doubts about repeating a year, choosing the right course, and what the future holds after Plus Two. To address these concerns, we turned to Shivan Sir, a highly respected academic mentor known for his expertise in competitive exam guidance. In this blog, we cover everything you need to know—from NEET, JEE, and CUET to AYUSH, Nursing, and more.
CUET 2024 – Gateway to India’s Top Universities
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has become a golden opportunity for students aspiring to join India’s premier universities. It is a national-level entrance exam accepted by over 52 central universities, offering access to more than a thousand undergraduate programs across disciplines like Science, Arts, Commerce, and Languages. Regardless of your stream in Plus Two, CUET opens doors to institutions such as Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Hyderabad University, Pondicherry University, and many others. It also includes ICAR-affiliated colleges for agriculture-based programs like BSc Agriculture and Horticulture. According to Shivan Sir, CUET is the single most powerful exam today that connects students with the best UG courses in India.
NEET 2025 and AYUSH Admissions
For students exploring courses like BAMS and BHMS, especially within Kerala, the NEET exam is the deciding factor. Kerala currently has six government and ten private Ayurveda colleges. There is no separate entrance for these programs, and NEET scores are used for admission. The fee structure is student-friendly, with government colleges charging as little as ₹5,000 per year, while private colleges may charge between ₹1 to ₹2 lakhs annually. On a national level, through AACCC counselling, students can compete for more than 50 government and deemed AYUSH colleges under the 15% All India Quota. It is expected that students from the general category will need around 450 marks in NEET to secure a government seat in Kerala, while a score of 300 may be enough for private seats. Even with a modest score, AYUSH courses offer a strong career path in the healthcare sector.
BDS Admissions – Government vs Private
Students aiming for a career in dentistry should know that Kerala offers excellent opportunities through the KEAM counselling process. There are five government dental colleges with affordable fees and over twenty private colleges, where fees range from ₹3 to ₹5 lakhs annually. For government seats, a NEET rank below 4,500 is typically needed, whereas private seats may be available for those with ranks under 30,000. Nationally, the BDS program under MCC counselling remains accessible, with students securing government seats with All India Ranks as high as 75,000. For many students who narrowly miss out on MBBS, BDS is a highly rewarding and respected alternative, offering a great return on investment and career stability.
AIIMS and JIPMER Nursing (BSc Nursing 2025)
Another excellent option is pursuing BSc Nursing through premier institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER. AIIMS offers its own entrance exam in June 2025, with 16 campuses across the country and an annual fee of just ₹500. The exam is conducted online and does not have a strict dress code. A score of 500 or more in NEET is expected to be competitive for selection. JIPMER, on the other hand, offers 95 seats—nine for boys and 86 for girls—and also admits students based on NEET ranks. Like AIIMS, JIPMER maintains high standards in medical education and offers great value for money. Nursing at these institutions is not only affordable but also provides a top-tier education and strong job prospects.
KEAM 2025 – BPharm, Paramedical, and Agriculture Courses
The KEAM exam is not just for engineering aspirants. It also plays a key role in admissions to pharmacy, paramedical, and agricultural courses. BPharm admissions in Kerala are based on the KEAM Pharmacy exam, which will be conducted in April 2025. Students who secure ranks below 4,500 can aim for government pharmacy colleges, while private colleges generally admit students with ranks up to 25,000. In addition to this, there are other attractive options such as the 11 ESIC medical colleges that offer MBBS at an extremely affordable fee of ₹24,000 per year. Military Nursing is another path that is gaining popularity, especially among girls. It involves selection through NEET followed by an interview, and offers a well-paid, prestigious career within the armed forces.
