NIRF RANKING 2023: TOP 10 ENGINEERING COLLEGES IN INDIA

Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, the Minister of State for Education and External Affairs released the eighth NIRF ranking 2023 under thirteen different categories on June 5th, 2023. National Institutional Ranking Framework is a ranking methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The NIRF ranking under thirteen categories includes Overall, Universities, Colleges, Research Institutions, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental, Law, Architecture and Planning, Agriculture and Allied sectors and Innovation. The ranking is based on five parameters: teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception.

WHICH ARE THE TOP 10 ENGINEERING COLLEGES?

The IITs have dominated the top 10 list. Ever since the beginning of the NIRF ranking, the IITs have always secured the top ranks in the ranking system. IIT Madras retained the first position followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. From the NIRF’s first ranking in the year 2016, IIT Madras holds the No.1 ranking in the “Overall” category and “Engineering” category for five consecutive years and eight consecutive years respectively. Last year, the premium institute IIT Madras had a ranking score of 90.04, but this year it is 89.79. Even though the ranking score got reduced, IIT Madras is maintaining the first rank position.

IIT Madras is followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. IIT Delhi has consistently retained the 2nd position for 5 years. It is ranked as the third-best college in the “Overall” category. In the “research” category, IIT Delhi has been featured as the top three institutions in India and ranked as the top five institutions in the “Management” category.

IIT Bombay has been ranked third in the “Engineering” category, fourth in the “Overall” category, tenth in the “Management” category and seventh in the “Innovation” category.IIT Kanpur and IIT Guwahati have retained their last year’s positions of Rank 4 and Rank 7. IIT Kanpur has been featured as the best educational institute in the “Overall” category.

Being the oldest engineering institution in India, IIT Roorkee secures the eighth position in the “Overall” NIRF ranking followed by the fifth position in the “Engineering” category. National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli lost its last year’s ranking, it had 8th rank but this year it came down to 9th position.
