Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is one of the prestigious institutions in India for space science. Established in Thiruvananthapuram in 2007, IIST is the first university in Asia to offer the best quality education in space science and technology. IIST offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in space science and technology.

Admission to the various undergraduate programmes is based on the JEE Advanced score. The candidates have to apply separately on the official website of IIST to participate in the admission process. It is mandatory for the candidate to be an Indian citizen. Based on the JEE Advanced score, a rank list will be published for the registered candidates.

Courses offered at IIST Trivandrum

Undergraduate Programmes

The IIST offers three undergraduate programmes among which one is a dual degree programme.

● B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering

● B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics)

● Dual Degree Programme – (B.Tech + M.Tech)

The Dual Degree Programme in Engineering is a five-year course with B.Tech and M.Tech. After three years in B.Tech, students can opt for an M.Tech specialization for the rest of the two years. For the specialization, students can choose M.Tech in Earth and Space Science, M.Tech in Optical Engineering, M.S in Solid State Physics and M.S in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Seat Matrix for Undergraduate Programmes in IIST Trivandrum

For the Undergraduate Programmes, there are a total of 154 seats, 60 seats in Aerospace Engineering, 60 seats in Electronics and Communication Engineering and 20 seats for Dual Degree Programme. The courses also offer 10% reservation seats.

Fee Structure for Undergraduate Programme

The students have to pay Rs.75,000 each semester if they are joining any of the above-mentioned Undergraduate courses.

Absorption Process of ISRO

Through this absorption process by ISRO, the students from IIST get an opportunity for employment at ISRO. When they join IIST, interested students can sign a bond that says that the students can get a placement at ISRO if they score a CGPA of 7.5 or above in the final result. Apart from the job opportunities, IIST provides internships for students at the various centres of ISRO for research.
